Swindon Office

Abbey Meads

Abbey Meads is a part of the North Swindon Expansion programme. Abbey Meads hosts the Abbey Meads Community Primary School, the Abbey Meads Pub along with convenience store, hairdressers, Estate Agents & the Abbey Meads Medical Practice. This is all in the same area and has a close community lead by the local pub.

Bridgemead

Bridgemead has a large Sainsbury’s and Homebase store in the heart of the area. Along with a number of different car room show rooms including Porsche, Ferrari and Mini. The area has a small housing estate close by with a mixture of apartments and terraced houses this is very popular with rental properties.

Broome Manor

Is an extremely popular place to love in Swindon for the more affluent person. Houses normally start from £350,000 and a lot of the houses back onto the golf course. The Broome Manor Golf and Gym Complex has a nine-hole course and a par-71 18-hole course. The clubhouse is renowned for its great food, and there is a new gym with high-spec equipment and excellent views of the course.

Cheney Manor

Was built in 1952 it is a large residential area that has expanded over the years. Cheney Manor church is in the centre of the residential area and holds regular services for young and old.

Churchward

Is an area built in the 1950’s that is a large residential area and within walking distance to the town Centre of Swindon. This area has a number of residential properties for the elderly and has a local pub the Greyhound that host regular pub quizzes.

Coleview

Is a large residential area consisting of bungalows, semi and detached houses. Coleview is located on the East side of Swindon close to the Greenbridge retail park. Colebrook infant school and Holy Family primary School are situated in the Coleview estate.

Covingham

The first known inhabitants in the Covingham area were the Romans in 43AD. In the mid 1960's the council estate of Covingham was built. Today it holds 3,781 residents with both council and private homes. It has a local convenience stores and a in the area pub.

Croft

This is home to Nationwide Building Society Head office and Burma Castrel. The Marriott Hotel and fitness Club has been built in Croft due to the access you have to the M5 motorway and the town centre.

Dorcan

Taking its name from the nearby Dorkerne (now Dorcan) brook,[2] Dorcan lies between Eldene, Liden, Covingham and the A419 bypass.) It has the site of the Dorcan Industrial Estate which includes the UK Headquarters of Tyco Electronics and offices of Npower (UK), Equiinet, MMG MagDev, Romec, House of Fraser (information systems), the Royal Mail sorting office and buildings owned by Woolworths.. Dorcan Technology College (Formerly Dorcan Comprehensive School) is also in this area, providing the locality with sports facilities, notable as it is the school attended by Melinda Messenger and actor Mark Lawrence (from the series Band of Brothers).

Eldene

Built in the 1970s on the site of Snodshill Farm it now holds a large residential area close to Liden. Eldene Primary school is located in the heart of the area. In the centre of Eldene it has a large lagune which is ideal for family walks.

Swindon

Swindon began as a Saxon village. The name Swindon is derived from the Saxon words swine dun meaning pig hill or the hill where pigs were bred. Swindon is a large town within the borough of Swindon and ceremonial county of Wiltshire, in South West England. It is midway between Bristol, 40 miles (64 km) west and Reading, 40 miles (64 km) east. London is 81 miles (130 km) east. In the 2001 census, the population of the Swindon urban area was 155,432, while the wider borough of Swindon had a population of 184,000

Eastleaze

is located in the west side of Swindon close to the West Swindon Centre. It is a large residential area consisting of apartments, 2 to 4 bedroom homes.

Ferndale

The main road of Ferndale is called Ferndale Road and links Rodbourne and Pinehurst and consists mainly of semi-detached houses. It located close to the Oasis Leisure Centre; this is ideal location for families.

Freshbrook

Is part of West Swindon, the Estate was built during the period 1980-84. It has a local pub The Windmill along with a convenience store, Freshbrook primary School and local community Centre. Freshbrook is close to the M4 motorway ideal if you commute to London.

Gorse Hill

is an area of Swindon close to the town centre. Gorse Hill has primarily terraced houses that date back to the 1900’s. It has Gorse Hill Primary School along with a number of pubs and a community Centre where they regularly hold theatre productions.

Grange Park

Is located next to Lydiard house and Park, a large park that backs onto farmers land. This holds host to many charity events and has held the Radio 1 party in the park in 2009. Grange Park also has Tregose Primary school and Greendown Community School but as of 2012 it will change its name to Lydiard Park Academy.

Greenmeadow

Originally this held the Greenmeadow Farm but the land was sold off slowly to build houses. Twenty one of the roads built on the Greenmeadow estate were named after English rivers.

Thames Avenue, Dart Avenue, Isis Close, Kennet Avenue and Stour Walk. Greenmeadow has a variety of properties form Bungalows to detached houses and also has the popular shopping supermarket Morrisons located in the centre of Greenmeadow.

Hawksworth the industrial Estate was named after Frederick Hawksworth chief mechanical engineer in 1941 for the railway, he produced a number of different engines. The industrial estate which was founded in the mid-1970s, which was in sight of both the railway line and the Works.

Haydon Wick

Lies to the north of Swindon and has an estimated population in excess of 16,000, more than 13,950 of which are registered electors. Originally a small village, during the latter part of the twentieth century and continuing today, house building has extended the numbers of properties and areas within the parish considerably. Local areas within the parish now include Haydon Wick, Haydonleigh, Greenmeadow Abbey Meads, Haydon End, Redhouse, Taw Hill and Oakhurst. Some of these areas fall within the Priory Vale northern development. Schools within the parish include Catherine Wayte Primary[4], Greenmeadow Primary[5], Haydonleigh Primary [6], Haydon Wick Primary[7], Red Oaks Primary[8], Isambard Community[9], Orchid Vale Primary[10], Nova Hreod[11] and St. Francis[12].

Kingsdown

Was built up in the 1970’s the houses are generally semi or detached houses. Kingsdown is located close to the A419 ideal if you need to have access to the M4 motorway. Kingsdown hosts the Arkell\'s Brewery Swindon and the Swindon Crematorium.

Lawn

The Lawn area was built up in the 1930’s and 1940’s and have some of the nicest homes in Swindon, many with their own gardens. There are good schools in this area and handy amenities in the form of local shops and doctor’s surgeries. The area is also home to Coate Water Country Park, a beautiful area which is perfect for keen walkers and includes children’s play area and paddling pool, barbeque and picnic areas, cycle hire, pitch & putt, mini golf, model railway, bird hides, fishing and orienteering. The beautiful Broome Manor and golf course is also in the area. The ‘Lawn’ itself covers 86 acres which makes it one of the largest open spaces in Swindon. The Lawn originally had a natural spring that flowed from the top of the hill; this made the site ideal for settlement. Today, the wood, lake, sunken garden, elements of the walls and the gateposts at the entrance to Lawns are all open to the public.

Liden

Liden is situated between Eldene and Covingham. It has its own pub called the Liden Arms Pub along with Liden Primary School at the centre of the comminity. Liden is a stones through away from Coate Water ideal location for families.

Moredon

In 1948 the council bought land and in the early 1950's a large council estate was built. Moredon hosts Moredon Infant and primary School along with some small local shops and the Boundary House Pub. Barrett Homes have just started to build new homes in the heart of Moredon from terraced to detached houses.

Middleleaze

Is located in the heart of West Swindon. It has Brooklands infant and Junior school in the heart of middlelease. This is an extremely popular area of West Swindon to live.

Middle Stratton

Stratton is built on the old road to Cirencester. Upper, lower and middle Stratton consist of red brick terraced houses on the east side of Swindon.

Town Centre

Some of the older parts of Swindon are situated in Central Swindon including the Railway Village, a unique residential estate built in the 1840s to provide quality housing for the workers of Great Western Railway. These properties are in high demand because of their heritage and their close proximity to the city centre. All of the buildings in the Railway Village are protected by English Heritage.

The Parade Shopping Precinct was built in 1964 and the town centre was pedestrianized in 1976. The Brunel Centre was first built in 1978, however, it was revamped in the 1990s and was turned into Brunel Arcade and Brunel Plaza. The Great Western designer outlet centre opened in 1997.

Nine Elms

The heart of Nine Elms heart is the friendly traditional local pub situated on the edge of West Swindon just a five minute walk from the shops in Ramleaze Drive. The pub is a focal point for the local community and there are a wide range of groups and clubs that regularly meet here.

North Star

is an industrial area which includes the Oasis leisure Centre and Swindon College. The Oasis as it is commonly known is a large sports Centre whose main attraction is a lagoon swimming pool complete with 3 giant water slides, wave machines, water cannon, hydro slide and a waterslide.

The Centre also has a newly refurbished gym, 4 outdoor pitches, squash courts, cafe/bar, crèche, and a large multipurpose sports hall. Sports courses, children's birthday parties and children's holiday camps also take place here. In recent years the Oasis has become a venue for many nationally recognized performers including Simon Webbe, McFly, Beverley Knight and The Kings Of Leon.

Nythe

is located close to the A419 in the centre of Nythe Road is the Nythe Primary School, Victoria Cross Surgery.

Oakhurst - is located in the north Swindon Area, the building of Oakhurst commenced in 2006 and is still ongoing today. Oakhurst is located next to Mouldon Hill which is a country Park ideal for Sunday walks!

Oakley Park

Oakley Park is a new area situated between Nythe and Covingham. It consists of a variety of houses from terraced to detached houses. This area is still being built and will take a while to complete.

Okus

Okus Road is situated in the Old Town area of Swindon. Until 2002 the Princess Margaret Hospital was situated off Okus Road. On the site it now has a number of new homes from apartments to detached houses.

Park North

The Park North Estate was built in 1957-65 it includes 3 10-storey tower blocks. Park North is situated very close to the Town Centre.

Park South

The estate was built in 1957-65 which Includes Cavendish Square, a shopping area which has now been rebuilt into a smaller shopping area with the removal of the residential flats above the shops, New homes have been recently built in this area.

Peatmoor

Peatmoor is located in West Swindon and has its own Village Centre, surrounded by local shops, schools and doctors surgery. Busy Bees nursery and a community primary school.

Pembroke Park

Pembroke Park was developed in the 1980s on the site of a municipal power station that was closed and demolished in the 1970s. The development pre-dates, and is south of, the large Northern Development Area of Abbey Meads. The houses are a mixture from Terraced houses to detached houses.

Penhill

Built during the period 1951-55 which includes 3 10-storey tower blocks. Penhill is a housing estate two miles north of Swindon’s town Centre. Most of the 2621 homes were built in the 1950s. There are approximately 6068 residents.

Pinehurst

After the war the first council houses were built in Pinehurst in 1919-1925. Today the area has Pinehurst Primary School along with Headlands Secondary School.

Prinnels

The Prinnels is located between Middlelease and Grange Park close to Lydiard house and Park. The area consists of a variety of houses from terraced to detached homes.

Priory Vale

Priory Vale's construction commenced in 2001, Today, the Priory Vale area of Blunsdon St Andrew occupies farmland and fields dating back to the 1700s. The villages within Priory Vale Redhouse and Haydon End are named after these historical fields, while the village title of 'Oakhurst' was taken from the name of the home at Haydon End Farm.

Railway Village

The Railway Village was planned when the Great Western Railway Company's 7ft-wide, broad gauge line reached Swindon in 1840.

From the out set there was considerable difficulty in providing accommodation for the employees at the Swindon railway works and the solution was to build a model village, using Bath stone. The railway was the heart of the community for a number of years. These days it has a museum on the site, a pub and the houses are still occupied by the residents of the town centre.

Ramleaze

Is located between the Brampton’s and nine Elms in the West Swindon Area. It is easily accessible for the West Swindon Centre and the town centre.

Raybrook Park

Raybrook Park has Even Swindon Primary School Close and is in close proximity to many of Swindons local amenities.

Redhouse

Redhouse is located on the North side of Swindon and is accessed from the A419. Redhouse is located at the heart of Priory Vale, a new community built on the north side of the thriving town of Swindon.

Redhouse has a brand new state of the art Learning Campus incorporating 2 secondary and 2 primary schools to service the local community. The nearby Orbital Shopping Park is host to a wide range of premier retail outlets including a 150,000 square foot superstore as well as 200,000 square foot of extra retail shopping space. Other amenities within easy reach include the North Swindon public library, a leisure club and even a small police station. Redhouse is still under construction and will be for the foreseeable future due to ever growing Swindon Town.

Redhouse Village has a local convenience shop, fish and chip shop, & hairdresses. Plans are underway to have a pub built in the area but this is only at planning stage at the present time.

Rodbourne

Is situated close to the Outlet Village. It has a Rodbourne Cheney Primary School and consitis mainly of terraced houses.

Rodbourne Cheney

Is the industrial area of Rodbourne which holds a variety of warehouses selling bathrooms& furniture. It Is also the home to Swindon council services.

Rushey Platt - Rushey Platt is conveniently positioned centrally to Swindon Town Centre, Old Town and West Swindon amenities. The area offers access to Junction 16 of the M4 Motorway and is local to many reputable primary, secondary schools and colleges.

Shaw

Is set in the heart of West Swindon. At the heart of shaw is the local pub the Village Inn, along with a convenience store, veterinarian, Kebah house, church and local kids school.

Sparcells

Is situated between North and West Swindon close to Peatmoor. Next door you have the lagoon where a chinese restaurant sits on the edge of the lagoon and Sparcells, ideal for a romantic dinner!

South Marston

Is split into two parts, the residential area and the industrial area. The industrial area includes the UK Headquarters of Zimmer and the large Honda car factory. The residential area of South Marston is a sought after part of Swindon which host large 4 / 5 bedroom detached houses. The Village has its own school and the South Marston Hotel which hosts a variety of evening events and weddings.

Stratton Village

St Andrew's Ridge

Was the first part of North Swindon to be developed in early 2000. St Andrews Ridge as it says in the name is situated on the ridge and looks over the continual development of north Swindon. St Andrews Ridge has the local pub the Jovial Monk along with a convenience store and fish and chip shop.

Toothill

Was the first area to be developed in West Swindon in the early 1980’s. The heart of the community of is the local pub called The Village Tavern, Toothill primary School
Walcot East - Walcot East was the first area to be built. East Walcot(new) was built later, in 1955, and was originally occupied by overspill families from London. The shops in Sussex Square(in walcot) were built a couple of years later and provided residents with a supermarket, newsagent, library and community shop it is within close proximity to Swindon’s town centre with many shops, pubs and leisure facilities.

Walcot West

Walcot West was the first area to be built in 1939. It has mainly terraced houses but has local shops close by in Walcot East.

Walcot

Walcot, is an area where community spirit and pride is very much in evidence. The estate runs either side of Queens Drive and includes Walcot East and West walcot. The secondary school in the area is Churchfields School, which is a maths, science and computing specialist. The Walcot Dome Community Centre is situated nearby and provides residents with a variety of facilities, including a pre-school. toddler group, OAP luncheon club, karate, and is host to many other community events.

Old Walcot

Was the original village before the expansion in the 1960’s for the new town development. Old village houses and substantial gardens and homes make up Old Walcot.

Westmead – is an industrial area of West Swindon that consists of Royal Mail sorting office and other industrial warehouses.

Westlea

Is set in West Swindon next to the West Swindon shopping centre. The heart of the community is Westlea Primary School, which also host s a number evening activities such as Cubs and Zumba.

North Swindon

North Swindon is the newest section of Swindon which started being built in the early 1990’s and is part of the northern expansion development in Swindon. The area boasts great shopping with the Orbital Shopping Centre which was developed in the late 1990’s, and includes stores like Marks and Spencer, Homebase, Boots, New Look and Next, and eateries like McDonalds and Pizza Hut. The shopping centre also includes the largest Asda-Walmart in Europe where you can purchase almost anything you need. North Swindon is continuing to undergo further expansion. North Swindon has very good schools and is also home to the beautiful Mouldon Hill Country Park which offers walkers and picnickers a delightful space to enjoy.

Old Town

As it is now known was a small market town, known mainly for its barter trade, until around 1848. This original market area was on top of the hill in central Swindon, and was a favoured settlement site for man as far back as the Bronze Age. Existing streets such as Newport Street, Wood Street, Devizes Road and High Street were all in place by the 13th century.

Old Swindon and New Swindon were incorporated into a single municipal borough in 1900. Today Old Town remains a vibrant area in Swindon, known for its strong community and array of local businesses, shops, bars and restaurants. The homes range from terraced homes right through to detached houses, and the area is much sought after due to its location to the many local conveniences.

Popular landmarks in Old Town include Christ Church and the Town Gardens.

West Swindon

Was developed in the late 1970’s and has a good mixture of different types of homes available. This area can offer residents a wealth of conveniences nearby including the West Swindon Shopping Centre which has eateries like Dominos and McDonalds, while also offering an Asda and a myriad of other conveniences like banks, hairdressers, dry cleaners and other stores. There are also other supermarkets and a cinema in the area.

For those who like to walk their dogs and enjoy scenic walks, Peatmoor Lake offers a delightful walk, while Lydiard Park can offer the history of Lydiard House and the accompanying church and garden.
The Link Centre in West Swindon has an ice rink, climbing wall, varied sport facilities and a gym.

East Swindon

Is a well-established part of Swindon and was built up in the 1960’s, but also has some new housing in the area. The housing is made up of a range of houses from bungalows to apartments.
Each individual area contained within East Swindon has their own village centre which includes small shops, doctors and hairdressers. The area is home to a mixture of people but is also made up of a lot of ‘locals’; people who have grown up in East Swindon and continue to live there, thus giving the area a strong community feel.
